Former Orlando Pirates head coach Roger De Sa has made up his mind on who he believes should be the 2023/04 DStv Premiership Coach of the Season.

De Sa is of the view that even though winning the league should be one of the requirements in choosing the best coach in the country, other factors should also considered.

The former Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper believes Stellenbosch FC's Steve Barker should edge Rulani Mokwena of Mamelodi Sundowns for the accolade.

While Mokwena has succeeded in guiding Sundowns to the league title, with less quality in his team Barker managed to winStellies a major trophy in the form of the Carling Knockout, and they are currently in second place on the log table.

"It's gotta be between Rulani and 'Stevie' Barker," De Sa tells KickOff.

"Stevie, for different reasons, deserves to be recognized, and Rulani... I mean, winning the championship by so many points, he also did well.

"Stevie Barker, with limited resources, still managed to keep the club stable. They have managed to compete and be consistent throughout the season.

"They are the only team that has kept up sort of a challenge, to be able to do what he does with a club like the one he has," adds the ex-Orlando Pirates head coach.

De Sa was pushed on who his preference for Coach of the Season between the two tacticians is, and showed no hesitation in his answer.

"For me, it's Steve Barker who should be the Coach of the Season."

"Rulani should be second because of all the achievements, but the job that Steve has done is an excellent coaching job.

"He took the club from the First Division to the Premier [Soccer] League, he kept them up, and there's just progress.

"Very good juniors, their Diski [Challenge] team is also on top, and everything is being done correctly.

"He's got a style of play that works, and I think that, for me, is a sign of a good manager.

"I certainly believe that the one who wins the league should be considered, but as you know, when you enter a race with a Ferrari and you're driving against a Volkswagen Beetle, it's not that difficult."
